AWANA is a world-wide nonprofit ministry focused on providing Bible-based evangelism and discipleship. AWANA gives children the opportunity to know, love and serve Jesus, no matter their background.We host the AWANA program for the Gibbon and Shelton communities.

About Us

Gibbon Baptist Church traces its history back to First Regular Baptist Church established in Gibbon in 1872. The church was reorganized as Gibbon Baptist Church on July 21, 1888.In 1889, Gibbon Baptist Church built its first building at the corner of 2nd and Court Streets. A major addition and remodel was completed on that facility in 1949.Since 1966, Gibbon Baptist Church has worshiped at our current location at the corner of 7th Street and Court.We are affiliated with the American Baptist Churches USA (ABCUSA).

Our Staff

Pastor - Taylor Shippy

Pastor Taylor Shippy started at Gibbon Baptist Church in December of 2020. He is originally from the Kansas City, MO area. He received his undergraduate degree from Indiana Wesleyan University, double-majoring in Christian Ministries and Church Music.He went on to receive his Master of Divinity from George W. Truett Theological Seminary on the campus of Baylor University.Pastor Taylor enjoys movies, video games, bike riding, and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs!

Secretary - Kay Johnson

Kay has been the secretary at Gibbon Baptist since January of 2019.She and her husband (Mark) live in Shelton with their four kids. Kay is a graduate of Kearney High School and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in Human Resources and Family Psychology.

Our little free food pantry may not feed the world, but it can feed some hungry families in our local community. Take what you need. Bless others by donating.

Moses Merrill Camp

Moses Merrill Camp & Conference Center hosts camps for our students. Gibbon Baptist often sends volunteer to the camp.

Kodiak Baptist Mission

Gibbon Baptist partners with and provides support for the Kodiak Baptist Mission located in Kodiak, Alaska.
